Old District Office North
A historic building that once served as a government office, now revitalized as a cultural exhibition space to explore Hong Kong’s history.
The Old District Office North, located in Wan Tau Kok Lane, Tai Po, Hong Kong, is the earliest civil administration building in the New Territories, constructed in 1907. It once served as the administrative center for northern New Territories, handling land registration, judicial arbitration, and local governance. A magistrate’s court was housed within the building until 1961, when it ceased operation. Architectural Features
Colonial Style: The building is made of red bricks, featuring arched windows and spacious verandas, designed to suit Hong Kong's humid climate.
Historical Preservation: Designated as a Declared Monument in 1981, it retains its original architectural charm.
Interior Details: The building originally included a fireplace, which remains intact as a testament to its history. Transformation & Current Use
1983: Ceased functioning as an administrative office.
1998–2000: Used by the Environmental Protection Department, Tai Po Division.
Since 2002: Became the headquarters of the Hong Kong Scout Association’s New Territories East Region, now known as the Law Ting Pong Scout Centre.
