The Hong Kong Railway Museum is an open-air museum located in Tai Po Market, Hong Kong. It was converted from the old Tai Po Market Railway Station, which was built in 1913 and later declared a monument in 1984. The museum officially opened in 1985 and covers an area of 6,500 square meters.
The museum showcases Hong Kong’s railway history, featuring historical train carriages, locomotives, and railway artifacts. Visitors can explore old ticket booths, signal control rooms, and even step inside historic train compartments. One of its highlights is the narrow-gauge steam locomotive that was once used on the Sha Tau Kok branch line.
Currently, the old Tai Po Market Railway Station building is temporarily closed for inspection and maintenance until mid-2025, but other areas of the museum remain open. Admission is free, and it’s a great spot for railway enthusiasts and history lovers alike.
